Ann

Certified Expert
Beans can grow well under the following conditions: Altitude: Both high and low altitude areas are suitable as long as there is adequate rain it can also be done under irrigation. Too much rain and long spells of drought are not good for beans and reduces their yield hence the need for the farmer to timely plant.
The beans also grow well in well drained fertile soil with adequate organic matter.
Beans take about two -3 months to maturity,
There are different beans varieties available in the market hence the need to identify the market demand and consumers preferences.
Its important to acquire certified seeds
In average, an acre would require 20-25kgs however this depends with the variety and the size of the seed. The bigger the size of seed, the more the quantity of seed required.
If a pure stand, beans can be planted at a spacing of 10cm by 30 cm.

The use of farmyard manure or well decomposed compost is highly recommended.
Fertilizer application can also be done, however this depends with the soil test analysis.
If well planted and all the management practices carried out effectively the beans should yield about 10-11 bags per acre.
