The is no black and white answer to this question. However when setting an appiary, the following should be considered 1. The place should not be squeezed that you appiary operations become a bother to the entire neighborhood, honey bees can forage far and wide but are lazy if the forage is nearby thus if you really don't want bees buzzing around your house especially if you store honey in your house then consider locating your hives as far away as possible. Children are bothered alot by beers and can always provoke the bees as they forage around. Appiary should not be in an area close to other domestic animals especially when your colony is made of the African sting honey bees.
