General Knowledge Farming in black cotton soils

Black cotton soil tends to be very sticky when wet and cracks while dry. It's easily compacted forming hard pans that prevent root development and causes poor aeration and drainage.

For this reason while dealing with black cotton soil well-rotted manure should be applied to improve the soil structure.

Before planting, prepare the land by raising the beds to encourage aeration and drainage.

Between the beds leave a path of about 30 cm and avoid stepping on the beds to avoid compaction.

Drainage systems should also be well prepared.

Once this is achieved, you can embark on planting.

After planting, ensure you constantly do aeration by digging the soil due to prevent hard pans.
