Feed formulation are static depending on the availability of raw materials around you and their respective costs,. One must ensure good quality of raw materials used, free from moulds and aflatoxins. The moisture content of each is also essential for the final product to have an optimal performance and give the desired results.
To have a balanced diet, protein, energy and vitamins are all essential.
Protein sources - sunflower cake, cotton cake, omena, fishmeal, canola, ground nuts, dry soya, etc
Energy sources- maize, Maize germ, wheat pollard, wheat bran, maize bran, molasses, rice polish
Essential Vitamins ie. methionine, lysine, threonine, pig premixes, enzymes(premixes available in animal feeds shops.)
Calcium sources -feeds limestone, bonemeal

This format may change depending on the quality of each other main content quality on their Energy, Protein content, availability and market prices.
After mixing your feed, its advisable to sample and take to a feed analysis laboratory near you (KARI) and do an analysis whether it meets the following nutritional requirements.
- Energy: 2400 – 2600 kcal
- Crude Protein (CP): 14 – 16%
- Fat: 3 – 4%
- Crude Fibre: 3 – 4%
- Calcium (Ca): 0.4 – 0.6%
- Phosphorus (P): 0.3 – 0.5%
