Hello farmers, which disease makes the chicks intestines to come out? And what is the remedy?
Vent prolapse isn't a disease as such but a condition that arises as a result of the following, chicken that starts laying early and are under weight, older chicken that are obese, calcium deficiency, laying bigger eggs or double yolked. If you already have such bird make sure it is isolated, have the protruding tissue cleaned using 10% iodine, replace the tissue manually by your self or seek services of a vet if the tissue has been compromised by pecking which might require antibiotics, apply anti-inflammatory cream such as hydrocortisone, provide multivitamin or electrolyte and liquid calcium (can disolve DCP in water). If laying bird, restrict the hen to less than 12hrs of light to prevent egg laying which might compromise the healing process. Should the condition persist, mark and cull the bird for meat.
