@Joyce, hen can abandon eggs due to the following reasons1. Hunger- birds not well fed will never complete egg incubation,2.poor seaters eg kroiler hens will always abandon eggs . 3. Pest infenstation can lead to poultry abandoning eggs.4 sick birds will abadondon eggs too.5 poor egg setting can also cause abandonment.

Scally leg can be prevented by using kerol diluted in water bath and let the birds walk or you can dip their legs in it.
