Poultry Poultry

We're about to start our poultry farming. my question is, would you advice on whether its okay to mix young chicks around 3 weeks with the older ones.
What quantity of Kienyeji Chicken would be best to start with? We're thinking of starting with 50 and we would like to keep the cycle going by adding another 50 after a month or so, hence my question above. Kindly assist.

Hello,Kabasekeb

Yes you can stock differently aged chicken but should be housed separately as per their age. This is because feeds are deferent, volumes, and management programmes also will differ, this is to include vaccinations.

Ensure. .
1. The correct spacing for each flock of birds
The spacing is about 2 to 3 square feet per chicken inside the chicken coop, and 8 to 10 square feet per chicken in an outside run. More square footage is better. Skimping on space requirements for a flock of chickens can cause stress, cannibalism, pecking, and sometimes even death.

2. Enough feeders and drinkers in each (12 to 16 feeders)
For pullets or growers 8 to 20 weeks of age, give 80gm per bird per day, of growers mash. This amounts to 8 to 9kg of feed per bird for 12 weeks. For birds 20 to 76 weeks of age allow 120 to 130gm per bird, per day of layers mash. This amounts to about 45 kg of layers mash per bird from 20 to 76 weeks of age.
