Advice for Brooding & Raising Chicks
This is one of the most challenging parts of poultry farming however, brooding chicks can be one of the easiest practices in poultry production if done right!
This is one of the most challenging parts of poultry farming however, brooding chicks can be one of the easiest practices in poultry production if done right!
- First, you need to make your brooders using plywood.
- Next, select the litter to use on your flour
- Invest in a source of heat (heat bulbs, jikos, lamps or brooding pots).
- Disinfect the whole chicken coup including the brooders using the disinfectants of your choice.
- Spread magazines on the litter in your brooders if using sawdust to prevent the chicks from feeding on the highly indigestible particles that can lead to a high mortality rate.
- You can now introduce the chicks to the house and reduce the amount of heat with time.
- Finally, make sure you follow the other management practices, i.e correct feeding, provision of clean water and correct time for vaccination.
- You are thereafter set to go! Brooding made easy, isn't it?
