Poultry Advice for Brooding & Raising Chicks

Advice for Brooding & Raising Chicks

This is one of the most challenging parts of poultry farming however, brooding chicks can be one of the easiest practices in poultry production if done right!
  • First, you need to make your brooders using plywood.
  • Next, select the litter to use on your flour
  • Invest in a source of heat (heat bulbs, jikos, lamps or brooding pots).
  • Disinfect the whole chicken coup including the brooders using the disinfectants of your choice.
  • Spread magazines on the litter in your brooders if using sawdust to prevent the chicks from feeding on the highly indigestible particles that can lead to a high mortality rate.
  • You can now introduce the chicks to the house and reduce the amount of heat with time.
  • Finally, make sure you follow the other management practices, i.e correct feeding, provision of clean water and correct time for vaccination.
  • You are thereafter set to go! Brooding made easy, isn't it?
