Other Poultry Grow my Goose Farming

nedward

Veterinarian
I would like to grow my goose business. Please Advice on how can I do that?
If you already have geese on your farm then you must have observed some few similarities between them and chicken farming in terms of management. If you are a stater, then take note of the following,1. Brooding of goslings:- After hatching care should be taken in handling and care of the goslings more so if warmth has to be provided artificially. Can use heat sources similar to the ones used in brooding chicks. 250 watts bulb can be enough for 30 goslings. The floor litter must be dry, and space per mature goose should be 6sqft. 2. Breeding and mating is best between 2-8yrs. After 10 yrs there is drop in egg production.breeding process can be by free range.make use of healthiest gander for 3-4 healthy females. Let the run for 1month at the start of their breeding season. 3. Feeding and nutrition;-in addition to availability of green pasture, provide supplimentary feed e.g geese pellets or mashes. Provide minerals vitamin premixes. Ensure that goslings get constant acces to water as from day 1.special jars and troughs can be handy in this. Remember to observe othere management practices just like in the case of other poultry species( biosecurity and biocontaiment is a must). Hope this will start you off. Keep logged into the platfom. Thanks
