Poultry Making decision on either keeping broilers or layers has defeated me plz kindly help basing on profit output

Enterprise choice enterly depends on how best you can work out your expected profit margins beforehand by drafting gross margin analysis for the two enterprices factoring in real figures based on your region. For example enterprise A might be profitable in one area depending on consumer preference of such a product in that area. That not withstanding, choosing broilers over layers is comparatively tricky if no attention to details isn't done. However layers production though takes time to get returns is always more profitable in the long run as compared to broilers. Either way you must have over 500birds to realize meaning full margins. Small scale production has very dismal returns.

Its easier to start rearing broilers than layers(i have done them before) the startibg point is MARKETS , have you researched the availability a good market.This ultimately becomes the farmers nightmare ! The broilers can be ready for sale from four weeks on wards and you will be damned if you are forced to keep them longer because of no market. Please work on markets then then make a decision.
