I wish to start a ginger fam, any advice on how to go about it?
Hello Abdulai here below are general guidelines you need to check on for your enterprise to thrive.
  1. Suitable climatic conditions, the crop thrives best in hot and wet conditions
  2. Fertile soils well balanced with sandy loam, pH 5.5-6.5, early prepared land free from soil borne pests e.g root nematode
Soil rich in organic matter give better results
3. Land preparation, preferably plant the rhizomes (planting materials) in ridges 25-30 cm apart, covered with soil 5-10 cm with intra- row spacing of 15-30 cm
- suitable rhizomes are 2.5cm with two- three eyes for germination
4. Maturity is between 8-10 months ,harvesting done using a forked jembe
