I often have a few birds stolen or killed by predators (local cats). Does anybody have suggestions on how to better protect my flock?

I went through the same problem a few years ago...here are a few steps I took:
  • I put a lock on my chicken house and made sure there was no way large predators that could enter from outside.
  • Some people have a dog to protect that they let out at night.
  • I personally purchased a few geese. They are very loud and aggressive towards intruders which had saved me a few times.

How does geese protect against let say predators & thieves may be
Geese are very aggressive birds so if you let them roam free at night they will make LOTS of noise if they sense something is not right. Therefore you will likely be woken up if anything is out of the ordinary.

I don't think they would survive against a bigger predator like a dog though....
