Proper nutrition can prevent most leg disorder in poultry with the exception of genetic defects. Always ensure that your birds are supplement with quality well balanced ration especially for the scavenging birds. Never assume that they have gathered enough in their scavenging mission. The most affected birds with such paralysis are birds that have just finished 21 days sitting on their eggs and exposed to unbalanced feed low in calcium to be specific. Always give you brooding birds (hens) special ration high in calcium. Cheap source would be "omena". Vitamin D3 deficiency - causes soft bones and lameness in chicks. Riboflavin deficiency - causes curly-toe paralysis, straddle legs and chicks sitting on their hocks. This condition can be corrected by having your laying birds on balanced feed during egg laying so as to have the same deposited in the egg yolk for use by chicks. Beware of scaly leg mites too cause they can too be a source of lameness in poultry.
